Athletes for rape prevention could be the difference  in sexual assault occuring in your  organization.  In a industry where professionals are targets, there needs to be  support that allows athletes to be educated before they fall victim of accusations of sexual assault. AFRP is committed to do four key things for  all athletes and students around the world;

  1.  Increase knowledge
  2. Increase Awareness
  3. Increase Compassion
  4. Bridge the Gap

NFLIn these four components “Inside the Locker Room” will make a difference in your organization. Athletes For Rape Prevention future goals are to decrease the amount of sexual assault cases in the next 10 years. Over 450 athletes were accused of sexual assault from 1993-2004 (reported by

usatoday)

I know there is something about the word “RAPE” that turns many people away and I guess the mentality is, if no one talks about it then it doesn’t exist. They say, “rape is the worlds best kept secret”, and this may be true, but not so much to me.  I deal with kids and teens who have been sexually abused, assaulted and harassed everyday and I know the TRUTH. This is a problem in our society and I am often disgusted at the fact that abuse to animals seem to get a more harsh consequence then adults who are sexually abused. I encourage organizations like the NCAA, NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL to get more involved in the prevention of sexual assault.

ncaaThink about your daughter, who you have raised to be very special and very ambitious. Who you have taught morals and values to. Who you have taught the  right from the wrong things to do. You do all you can to protect her from harm through communication and prevention education.But the minute she steps on a college campus or goes to her senior prom she is in immediate danger of many temptations and mistakes that she possibly will make because she hasn’t been educated about protecting herself from being raped. She may go out with her friends and a guy may buy her a drink and she doesnt watch it from the time the bartender makes it to the time the guy brings it to her, or she goes to the bathroom and leaves her drink on the table and comes back and drinks the same drink, or she has a late night practice and she decides to walk herself home without a cell phone. (Stranger Rape makes up only 10% of Reported Rapes)

Think about your son who seems to have a promising career in athletics. He has a arm like Ryan, or game like Lebron,  or maybe he is the next Favre or Terrell Owens. You spend hours in the drive way practicing, going to AAU games, traveling to all american camps and going through the recruitment process trying to protect him from becoming exploited. All the time you you put into your son and one day he gets drunk and makes bad choices, or possibly has a disagreement with his girlfriend that goes to far, (cycle of violence), or he gets a little groupie love and becomes a victim of false accusation to sexual assault (2% of disclosures are false). Everything he worked for and that you put in to him whether he is convicted or not is gone forever along with his reputation which has tarnished him, his family, his team, his organization and every one involved in his life.

AFRP will answer 3 questions;

  1. Why are athletes accused of sexual assault publicized so much in the media?
  2. Why are athletes targets of sexual assault accusations?
  3. What can athletes do to protect themselves from becoming victims of false accusations of sexual assault?

Can anyone protect themselves from being Raped?

The answer to this question is yes and no.

We must not only teach our youth about sports or how to dress and how to speak in an interview and how to be a good person morally and spiritually we also have to prepare them for the tough situations that life has to offer. (Its a myth that rapist are usually mentall unstable or “sick” individually) It’s important to get the youth to understand things that could effect there dreams and goals for the future. AFRP is committed to doing all the above and it is never to late to be educated on sexual assault and domestic violence, the time is NOW!

    This is a question I ask myself everyday. Looking at some of the facts like how there are more then 900,000 sexual assaults a year. Rape costs the economy 127 billion dollars annually but still this crime is so under wraps. Are people afraid to speak on this subject? Are we just not aware enough to bring attention to it? A crime that changes lives forever should gain much more notarization. In this male dominated society one can only wonder if men are hiding the true realities of this crime. 98% of perpertrators are male. What will make the difference you ask? In my eyes educating men on this subject and making them more aware of what is so prevalent in this world today. RAPE IS A CRIME and that needs to be said. In this economy of lies and deceit even the most basic facts need to be re-stated over and over again. On top of prevention education there needs to be re-education on how the crime of sexual assault effects the world. This world is divided into many cultures and secret societies and there need to be an educator in each one of those groups relaying this message by relating to actual situations and experiences of that society. Women have been doing this for years, there are thousands of womens groups, foundations and organizations that come together to support one another. At what point do men get together and support one another on more then just sports, beer and sex. More programs like Athletes For Rape Prevention and Man Up need to be on the frontlines of this movement. If we can INCREASE the  knowledge, we can decrease the crime.  Just my thoughts!
